Roaster
Ignite Coffee’s roasting division utilisers a 30 Kg Petroncini hot air drum roaster. This method of roasting provides a very consistent roast especially when the green beans are pre-blended. Other roasting operations use only a standard drum roaster which we believe does not provide the same level of consistency as a fluidised roaster.
Each roast takes approximately 18 minutes and is monitored at all times by a master roaster.
Near the end of the roast regular samples are taken from the sample glass to ensure the texture and colour of the bean is accurate to within our parameters for the set blend profiles.
Sampling
At Ignite Coffee we perform cupping on a regular basis to ensure our blend flavours are consistent and to tweak any blends where necessary. All blends are ground medium and mixed with hot water, allowed to sit and then sipped via a spoon. The quick sip and then discharge allows the coffee blend to sit on the tongue for long enough to determine where the flavour lies (sweet, sour, acidic, bitter etc). This provides a very accurate taste profile and any noticeable changes in origin profiles are identified.
Destoner
We utilise a Petroncini destoner (designed to work with our roaster). This suspends all the roasted beans at a very accurate air pressure, allowing all the heavy objects (stones, metal) to drop into the bottom filters to be removed. The destining process also has strategically placed magnets as a back-up to capturing metal objects.
We have an extremely low grinder jam ratio which is reflective of the effectiveness of our
destoner process. When using Ignite Coffee we even guarantee the quality of our coffee entering the grinders with regard to foreign objects.
Contract Roasting
Ignite Coffee offers the option of contract roasting where we can offer coffee bagged in either plain (with or without labels) or the customers own bags. We offer flexible distribution terms where the product can be sent to either a bulk location for distribution or directly to the customer’s sites.
Contingency
Like all major roasters, Ignite Coffee has contingency plans for unexpected events such as breakdowns, green bean availability, fire etc.
We have a back up roaster and access to alternate roasting facilities to ensure there would be no loss of supply and no change in profiles and consistency.
